Hi, it’s Zoe here.
June brings warm days, soft evenings and the first real taste of summer to the Ribble Valley. Around the hut, the fields are green, the air feels lighter and life moves at a gentler pace.
Elderflower Season
June is the month when the elderflowers open in the hedgerows and along the paths. It’s something I look forward to every year. Gathering the blossoms and steeping them overnight for cordial, and the occasional elderflower gin, has become one of my favourite early-summer rituals.
I’ll soon be selling my own elderflower cordial in the honesty shop. I’m getting a freezer so I can offer it in ice cube portions, ready for guests to add to sparkling water, a gin and tonic or a glass of cava, (which I sell in my honesty shop) on a warm evening. It is a small taste of the Ribble Valley in summer.
If you’d like to try making your own, I’ve shared my elderflower cordial recipe here.

Simple June Pleasures
June brings long, gentle evenings and plenty of wildlife around the hut. If you sit quietly outside, you’ll often see swallows sweeping low across the fields, curlews calling in the distance and the soft movement of deer further afield, we even had one visit the hut at dusk last week! The barn owl also begins its evening flights, drifting silently over the grass as the light fades. Watching the valley settle is one of the loveliest parts of a stay.

Codie and Sam, who stayed recently, wrote:
“Thank you for a wonderful stay, a perfect getaway from the working week. Just what we needed. We felt truly spoilt. After a 10.5 mile walk on Saturday, the hot tub and sauna were an absolute treat. Highlight for us was watching the barn owl hunting, two evenings in a row. Thanks again, would love to come back in the winter.”
A June Escape Awaits
If you’re thinking about a summer stay, June is a beautiful time to visit. Warm days, peaceful evenings and nature at its best. Whether you’re celebrating something special or simply craving a quiet break, I’d love to welcome you to Bailey Huts, my luxury shepherd hut in the Ribble Valley.
Hope to see you soon, Zoe x
