A Springtime May Escape in the Ribble Valley: Riverside Wanders and Slow Living at Bailey Huts
Hi, its Zoe here.
May is one of the most beautiful months to stay at Bailey Huts here in the Ribble Valley. The Lancashire countryside shifts into full spring, the fields turn bright and fresh, and the hedgerows begin to fill out. It’s a gentle, hopeful time of year, perfect for a slow countryside break where you can unwind, reconnect with nature, and enjoy the privacy of your own luxury shepherd hut.
If you’ve been craving a peaceful escape, a two‑night stay gives you the space to arrive, breathe out, explore the Ribble Valley on foot, and settle into a slower rhythm.
A Riverside Walk Straight from the Hut
One of the loveliest things about staying at Bailey Huts is how easy it is to explore the Ribble Valley without getting in the car. The River Ribble is a short stroll away, and from there you can follow a beautiful circular walk that feels especially magical in spring.
This route is based on the Ordnance Survey map, follows public footpaths throughout, and takes in open fields, riverside stretches, and two well loved local pubs. It’s a perfect way to experience the Lancashire countryside at its best.
Distance: approx. 4.2 miles
Time: around 2 hours at a gentle pace
Terrain: riverside paths, fields, stiles, well‑marked footpaths
The Route
1. From Bailey Huts to the River Ribble
Walk down the lane from the hut and join the public footpath that leads gently down through the fields. Follow the waymarked path until you reach the River Ribble. This first stretch is peaceful and open, with views across the countryside.
2. Follow the River to Edisford Bridge
Turn left and follow the riverside path heading east. This section is easy to follow, with the river beside you for most of the way. In spring, you’ll often see lambs in the fields and birds skimming across the water.
After around 30 minutes, you’ll reach Edisford Bridge.
Pause at Edisford Bridge Pub
A welcoming riverside pub where you can enjoy a drink or a bite to eat before continuing your walk.
3. Cross the Bridge and Continue Along the North Side
Cross Edisford Bridge and turn right onto the footpath that drops back down to the river. This side of the Ribble feels more sheltered, with trees arching overhead and the river widening as it curves through the valley.
4. Arrive at The Aspinall Arms
Continue along the riverside path until you reach Mitton Bridge. The Aspinall Arms sits just beside it, overlooking the water. It’s a characterful spot, with a stunning beer garden and a lovely place to pause before heading back, also you could enjoy a meal here if this suits you better .
5. Return to Bailey Huts
Cross Mitton Bridge and follow the pavement along the road. You’ll pass the historic All Hallows medieval church, a beautiful landmark in Mitton, pop in to take a look at this beautiful church, if you fancy, then continue along the lane back towards the hut.
It’s a simple, scenic loop that gives you a real sense of the Ribble Valley in spring.
…And Relax
After your riverside wander, the evening is all about sinking back into comfort.
Warm through in the sauna, dip into the cold plunge for a refreshing reset, then settle into the hot tub as the light softens. The garden feels especially peaceful at this time of year, with long evenings and a sense of calm settling over the fields.
Inside, the hut is cosy and quiet, ready for a slow night in.
A Spring Reminder
May is full of small, gentle moments if you pause long enough to notice them. Hares in the fields, lambs calling across the meadows, birdsong drifting through the morning air. Sit outside with a drink for a few minutes and you’ll feel your whole body relax.
If you’ve been needing a reset, this is the place to find it.

My Perfect April Weekend in a Luxury Shepherd’s Hut in the Ribble Valley
Hi, it’s Zoe here.
Spring has sprung at Bailey Huts, and April is the month when everything starts to glow. The days are longer, the mornings are brighter, and the Ribble Valley looks like it’s taken a deep breath and decided to begin again.
If you’re craving a luxury shepherd hut stay in Lancashire that feels calm, cosy, and restorative, this is the time to book. The lighter nights mean you can do more without rushing. More fresh air, more exploring, more time outside, and more of those slow evenings that make a romantic getaway or countryside retreat feel like a proper reset.
This year, Bailey Huts feels even more like a wellness retreat too. Alongside the wood-fired hot tub and sauna, there’s now a cold plunge, a cold dip bath filled with cold water, and an outdoor cold shower, for anyone who loves that fresh, tingly, clear-headed feeling afterwards.
So, if I were booking my own April break at Bailey Huts, here is exactly what my weekend would look like…

Day 1: Arrive, breathe out, and have something delicious waiting for you
The first thing I’d do is simply arrive and let the quiet do its thing. April has that softer light, the kind that makes you slow down without trying.
If it’s your first night and you don’t fancy heading back out, I’d pre-order one of our ready-to-enjoy extras so it’s waiting for you when you arrive.
You can choose either:
- The Bailey Huts Arrival Board – a generous grazing platter style option, ideal if you want nibbles and something easy to pick at while you settle in.
- Enjoy a selection of local and artisan cheeses, crackers, homemade pickles and chutney, fresh fruit, homemade focaccia, whipped feta, roasted peppers, olives, and a sweet treat!
- The Bailey Huts Rustic Supper – more of a proper first-night meal, with heartier bits (think comforting, rustic and filling, perfect after the journey).
- Homemade vegetable quiche, focaccia, cabbage salad with Italian dressing, rocket and parmesan salad, a light tomato salad and olives. And of course, a sweet treat to finish. They’re both designed for that exact moment when you want to switch off straight away. No supermarkets, no booking tables, no fuss. Just arrive, unpack slowly, and enjoy.
- And if you fancy extra treats later, there are snacks available in the honesty shop too.
April is also a brilliant month for wildlife spotting. You might see deer in the fields, hares in the distance, and now spring lambs appearing too. It’s one of the loveliest parts of being out here. You can sit back, look out over the meadow, and just watch nature doing what it does.
After that, I’m straight into the wood-fired hot tub.
The wood-fired hot tub: the moment you properly switch off April evenings can still be cool, which makes the hot tub feel even more luxurious.
With the pre-light service available, it can be warm and ready for you, so there’s no faff. You just arrive, settle in, and sink into the heat while the sky shifts through sunset colours over the fields.
This is the moment when most people stop checking their phones. Shoulders drop, breathing slows, and the noise in your head quietens down.
And if the night is clear, you can even catch a bit of stargazing, which feels extra special when you’ve spent too long under streetlights.
Day 2: Lighter nights mean more exploring… then wellness time
Day two would start with another slow morning. April is made for taking your time.
With the longer days, you can head out for a proper spring walk and still have plenty of daylight left for the rest of the day. The Ribble Valley is beautiful this time of year, and the Forest of Bowland nearby is perfect for scenic routes, open views, and that fresh-air reset.
Later, I’d go into Clitheroe for a wander, a bite to eat, and a little explore. There are plenty of great places to eat and drink in the Ribble Valley
April is a lovely month for local food too. Seasonal menus start appearing, and it’s a great time to enjoy Lancashire produce after a walk.
Then I’d head back to the hut for the best part of the day: the wellness evening.

Hot sauna, cold plunge, warm hot tub and fresh country air…a proper reset.
This is what makes Bailey Huts feel like more than just a place to stay.
I’d start with the sauna, relax, quieten your mind, proper switch-off. Then I’d do the cold plunge, and yes, it takes a bit of courage the first time, but the feeling afterwards
is incredible. Fresh, energised, and clear-headed.
The contrast between heat and cold is what makes it feel like a true reset. It’s the kind of thing you don’t forget, and it turns your stay into a real retreat.
And after that? Back into the wood-fired hot tub again, because once you’ve done sauna and cold dip, the hot tub feels even better.
With April’s lighter nights, you can stay outside longer, enjoy the evening air, and take your time without feeling like the night has arrived too quickly.
Day 3: Slow goodbye, wildlife watching, and one last breathe-out
On the final morning, I’d keep it simple. A lazy start, a warm drink and a few moments looking out over the fields.
This is often when guests tell me they’ve spotted deer, hares, or lambs playing in the distance. It’s such a simple joy, but it’s exactly why people book a countryside retreat. To slow down enough to notice what’s around them.
If I had time, I’d squeeze in one last wellness moment, even just a short sauna session, then I’d pack up slowly and head home feeling like I’d had a proper break.
If you’re looking for an April spring break in Lancashire, a romantic getaway in the Ribble Valley, or a wellness retreat with a wood-fired hot tub, sauna, and cold dip, I’d love to welcome you.

March at Bailey Huts – A Year of Growth, Lighter Nights, and a New Wellness Retreat in the Ribble Valley
Hi, it’s Zoe here.
I can’t quite believe I’m writing this, but Bailey Huts is one year old. One year since I opened the door to my luxury shepherd hut in the Ribble Valley, Lancashire, and welcomed the first guests into the calm I’d been dreaming about for so long.
March feels like the perfect month to reflect, because it’s the season of growth. The days stretch a little longer, the countryside starts waking up, and you can almost feel the world softening into spring. And honestly, that’s exactly how the past year has felt for me too.
A year ago, I planted a seed with Bailey Huts. I put my heart into creating one
special place, not a big site, not a row of cabins, but one luxury shepherd hut set in a private meadow garden, close to the Forest of Bowland. A quiet retreat where people could slow down, switch off, and breathe again.
And now… it’s growing.
The first year – the seed, the roots, and the people
When you open a new business, you hope people will “get it”. You hope they’ll understand what you’re trying to create. Bailey Huts was never meant to be just somewhere to sleep. I wanted it to be a feeling.
A romantic break where couples can reconnect without distractions.
A countryside retreat where the pace is slower and the air feels cleaner.
A luxury shepherd hut stay where you can soak, walk, rest, and return home feeling lighter.
Over the last year, I’ve watched guests arrive carrying the weight of busy lives… and leave looking calmer. I’ve read so many messages that say, “We didn’t realise how much we needed this.”
Those are the moments that make me feel like the seed has taken root.

“Every last detail has been carefully thought through. The hut is very comfy, the hot tub is great, the honesty shop is very well stocked from home baked goods and jams to pottery, wine and beer. The local pub is great and Whalley is just a short drive away. What’s not to love?”
March in the Ribble Valley – lighter nights and that “fresh start” feeling
March is a beautiful time for a shepherd hut break in Lancashire because it gives you
the best of both worlds. You still get that cosy comfort in the evenings, but you also
get longer days and lighter nights.
Even before the clocks change at the end of the month, the light starts to linger.
Then British Summer Time arrives, and the evenings feel brighter again. It’s the
month where you can head out for a peaceful walk later than you could in winter, and
still come back in time for a slow, cosy evening.
And the Ribble Valley in March is quietly stunning. The lanes feel calmer, the views
feel hopeful, and the Forest of Bowland has that “nearly spring” beauty that makes
you want to breathe deeper.
Romantic break, quiet retreat, or a little bit of both
Some guests come for romance. Some come for rest. Many come for both.
March is ideal if you want a romantic getaway without the crowds. It’s peaceful, private, and the slower pace makes it easier to reconnect properly. No distractions, no rushing, just time together.
If you’re craving a retreat, this is your season. The world is waking up and it naturally makes you want to reset too. A few days away in the countryside can do wonders for your headspace.
And because Bailey Huts is just one shepherd hut, your break stays personal and private.

The wood-fired hot tub – still the favourite
I must mention the wood-fired hot tub, because it’s been part of so many guests’ favourite memories this year.
March is still cool enough that the hot tub feels extra luxurious, especially in the evening when the air turns crisp again. There’s nothing like sinking into warm water after a walk, looking up at the sky, and letting your body properly relax.
On clear nights, you can still enjoy stargazing too… one of those simple experiences that feels surprisingly special when you’ve been surrounded by screens and streetlights for too long.
New this March – sauna and cold plunge therapy coming
As Bailey Huts enters its second year, I’m excited to share that I’m bringing in a brand-new wellness feature… a sauna and cold plunge therapy experience.
I’ve wanted to add something that deepens the retreat feeling. Somewhere you can properly reset your nervous system, warm through, calm down, and feel that head-to-toe “ahhh” that only happens when you truly switch off.
The sauna is all about easing into warmth and switching your mind off. The cold plunge is for those who love that invigorating, fresh, energised feeling afterwards.
Together, they create a simple but powerful ritual that turns a countryside stay into a proper wellness retreat.
So, if you’ve been looking for a romantic break with a wellbeing twist, or a shepherd hut retreat in Lancashire that feels restorative as well as cosy, this next chapter is going to be something really special.
Visiting for a wedding? Swap hotel chaos for calm
March is also a popular time for weddings and spring celebrations. If you’re visiting the Ribble Valley for a wedding, Bailey Huts can be a brilliant alternative to busy hotels.
Instead of noisy corridors and rushed breakfasts, you get your own private space, a peaceful night’s sleep, and the chance to turn the occasion into a proper mini-break.
It’s ideal if you want somewhere calm to get ready, unwind after the celebration, or simply enjoy a quieter stay while you’re in Lancashire.
A gift of calm – Mother’s Day and girly getaways
March also brings Mother’s Day, and I honestly think the best gifts aren’t always things… they’re feelings.
If you’re looking for a gift of calm, a reset, or a little slice of peace, a Bailey Huts stay is a beautiful option. It’s the kind of break where you can chat, laugh, walk, soak, and slow down properly.
It’s perfect for a Mother’s Day treat, a girly getaway, or a “we need time together” break with someone you love. No packed agenda, just countryside air, cosy comfort, and that lovely sense of being away from it all.
A year on… and everything is growing
This is the part that feels most like March to me.
When I opened Bailey Huts, I was planting the first seeds. I was creating something built on calm, comfort, and the beauty of the Ribble Valley.
Now, one year later, I can see what’s grown from that… and I’m so excited for what comes next. The business is growing, the vision is growing, and now the experience is growing too, with the sauna and cold plunge therapy coming.
Outside, spring is doing the same. New life starting, the countryside shifting, and that sense that brighter days are coming.
If you’ve been craving your own fresh start, your own pause, your own little moment of “this is what I needed”… March is the month for it.

Book your March stay at Bailey Huts
So if you are looking for a countryside break, a romantic getaway, a Mother’s Day treat or a retreat with a wellness twist…Bailey Huts was designed with you in mind, for slow living, romance, rest, and those simple moments that make you feel like yourself again… I’d love to welcome you.

Slow Living in the Ribble Valley – Cosy Shepherd Hut Breaks at Bailey Huts
Hi, It’s Zoe here, I’ve just welcomed today’s guests and as I sit looking at my stunning view, brew in hand, I was thinking about the months to come.
February is one of my favourite months at Bailey Huts. It’s quieter, calmer, and it invites you to slow right down.
The Ribble Valley feels like it takes a deep breath in winter, and my cosy shepherd hut becomes a warm, welcoming hideaway for anyone craving peace, comfort, and a proper reset.
Bailey Huts is just one luxury shepherd hut, and I love that. It means everything stays personal. I’m not running a big site with rows of units. I’ve created one special space, in a private meadow garden, where you can escape the noise and enjoy the kind of simple winter magic that’s easy to forget in everyday life.

The February feeling…calm, cosy, and unhurried
By the time February arrives, most people have pushed through January and are starting to feel the drag of winter. They are looking for something to do. Somewhere to go. They’re not looking for a busy break. They want a gentle one. They want warmth, quiet, and a change of scenery that feels like stepping out of their routine.
And that’s exactly what I love to offer.
The first thing guests notice is how they change the moment they step into the hut.
They say they walk in, pause, and look around. Shoulders drop and their body recognised it can finally relax.
Hearing that, never gets old for me.
A shepherd hut… made for winter stays
Winter is when the hut truly comes into its own. The cosy interior is designed to feel like a little world of its own… warm, comfortable, and welcoming after a day outside.
February nights are made for slow evenings, good conversation, and early nights that turn into the kind of deep sleep you only get when you’ve properly switched off.
Guests often tell me they forgot what it felt like to do nothing without feeling guilty. That’s exactly the point of a winter break here. It’s not about filling your days. It’s
about creating space in them.
You can wake up without rushing. Make a brew, from a selection of coffees, teas, hot chocolates, all waiting for you in the welcome pack. Sit and watch the light change outside. Read a chapter. Have another brew. Go for a walk when you feel like it. Come back and warm up. Let the day unfold instead of chasing it.

Your own private meadow garden…your little corner of Lancashire
One of the things I’m proudest of is the setting. The hut sits within a private meadow garden, which gives you that sense of being tucked away. In February, your own private garden feels wonderfully peaceful. The air is crisp, the skies can be
beautifully clear, and everything feels calm and open.
It’s the kind of place where you can stand outside for a moment, breathe in, and feel your mind quieten down.
You can sit and watch the birds feed at the feeding station or hares and pheasants in the fields.
And because Bailey Huts is in the Ribble Valley, Lancashire, you are perfectly placed for winter walks and countryside exploring. The Forest of Bowland is close by and it’s stunning in every season, but winter has a special charm. The landscapes feel bigger, the paths are quieter, and the views have that crisp clarity that makes you stop and just look.

Winter walks, local wandering, and simple pleasures
A lot of my guests come for that slower pace. They want a good walk, a bit of fresh air, and the kind of day where you don’t have to do much more than decide what time you’ll head out. February is ideal for that.
You can wrap up warm, head into the countryside, and enjoy peaceful winter walks without the crowds. Then you come back to the hut, cheeks a little rosy, feeling refreshed in the best possible way.
It’s that contrast I love most… the fresh cold air outside, then the cosy warmth of the hut when you return.
The wood-fired hot tub… the winter favourite
Now, let me tell you about the wood-fired hot tub, because for many guests, this becomes the highlight of their stay.
There’s something wonderfully grounding about it. It’s not a button you press and forget about, it’s part of the experience, no harsh chemicals, no loud pump noise, just the pure clean water and the crackle of the wood fire. It encourages you to slow down and enjoy the moment.
And once it’s ready, stepping into a steaming hot tub on a cold February evening is pure bliss. The air feels sharp and fresh, but you’re warm, relaxed, and wrapped in that gentle quiet you only get in the countryside.
On clear nights, you can look up and see the stars. Proper stargazing, the kind that makes you feel small in the best way.
Guests often tell me they stayed in longer than planned, just watching the sky and chatting, or simply sitting in silence because it felt so peaceful.
That’s what I want Bailey Huts to be. A place where you can slow down enough to notice the stars again.
A romantic February break… without the pressure
February naturally has that romantic feel, but I never think romance must mean grand gestures. Sometimes it’s just time together. No distractions. No schedules. No endless scrolling.
A lot of couples come here because they want to reconnect. They want to talk, laugh, and enjoy simple things again. A walk, a cosy evening, a hot tub under the stars, and a night where you sleep… properly.
And if you’re booking for yourself, solo, that can be just as restorative. I’ve had guests come for a quiet reset, a chance to breathe, read, reflect, and go home feeling steadier and clearer. You can even pop up the hammock!
Bailey Huts is for anyone who needs calm…. Everyone!

Why February is the perfect time to book
If you’ve been feeling like winter has been a bit relentless, a February break can change everything. It gives you something to look forward to, and it breaks up the season in the loveliest way.
This is your reminder that you don’t have to wait for spring to do something nice for yourself.
Whether you’re planning a romantic winter getaway in the UK, a peaceful countryside retreat, or a cosy break with a hot tub in Lancashire, February is an ideal time to come to the Ribble Valley and experience the slower side of life.
Book your winter stay at Bailey Huts
If this sounds like exactly what you need, I’d love to welcome you.
