Hi, it’s Zoe here.
September brings cooler mornings, earlier evenings and the first autumn colour to Bailey Huts.
I’ve been turning late-summer elderberries and hedgerow fruit into homemade treats, while recent guests have reminded me that Bailey Huts is just as special for a peaceful solo getaway in Lancashire as it is for a couples’ escape.
This month is about seasonal abundance, simple comforts and giving yourself permission to pause.

From the Hedgerow to My Kitchen
At the end of August, I gathered elderberries and other fruit from the hedgerows and garden. I’ve since turned them into homemade Crème de Sureau and small batches of hedgerow jam for guests to enjoy with breakfast.
Making things from what grows around Bailey Huts feels connected to this place and to the experience I want guests to have. Everything is seasonal, made in small batches and prepared with care. You may also find a jar or two of jam in the honesty shop to take home.
Fancy making your own Crème de Sureau? Try my Crème de Sureau recipe on the Bailey Huts recipe page.
Sometimes You Just Need a Break
Bailey Huts is often chosen for couples’ celebrations, but recent solo guests made me think about how rarely we give ourselves permission to take a proper break.
Life can become a constant round of work, family, appointments and looking after everyone else. Even time off can come with somebody else’s needs attached. A solo stay gives you two nights that belong entirely to you, with no diaries to coordinate and nobody else’s timetable to follow.
A Solo Stay at Bailey Huts
Sleep late, read all afternoon, walk through the Ribble Valley or move between the sauna and hot tub. Your time is entirely your own.
The pre-light service means everything is ready when you arrive. You can add a Bailey Huts Rustic Supper or Arrival Board, and my complimentary homemade continental breakfast is included. Bring less, plan less and simply settle in.

For anyone travelling alone, feeling safe and comfortable matters, and it is something I take seriously as a host.
“From the moment I arrived, Zoe made me feel completely welcome and looked after, while still giving me the privacy and peace I was looking for.”
Heather Eato, solo guest
“Utter bliss, total rest and relaxation from start to finish. As a solo traveller, I felt totally safe and relaxed here.”
Joanne Collins, solo guest
A Peaceful Break for Anyone
A peaceful break is not only for women. Work, responsibilities and the general weight of everyday life can leave anyone needing time away. If somebody you care about needs a pause, a Bailey Huts stay could also make a thoughtful gift.

Your Own Corner of the Countryside
The hut and its enclosed garden are entirely yours, with a wood-fired hot tub, sauna, cold plunge, outdoor shower and fire pit.
Curl up in the hammock with a book, a brew or a glass of wine. You can explore the Ribble Valley on foot or stay put and listen to the countryside. There is no schedule to keep and nobody else’s plans to fit around.
September Evenings by the Fire
As the evenings draw in, the fire pit becomes even more inviting. Sit outside as the light fades, light the fire and watch the countryside settle for the night. Bailey Huts is Dark Sky Friendly too, making clear evenings perfect for stargazing.

Join my mailing list and receive a complimentary Fire Pit Hamper on your first stay. It includes logs, fire starters and a s’mores kit for two, with my homemade chocolate fudge dipping sauce and sprinkles.
The First Signs of Autumn
September is a lovely time to explore the Ribble Valley. The countryside is beginning to turn, but there is still plenty to enjoy outdoors, from nearby walks and beautiful scenery to good places for food and a drink.
The wildlife is shifting with the season too. Hedgehogs are still visiting the feeding station, and the hibernation box is ready for the colder months. These small changes make Bailey Huts feel special and bring the rhythm of the seasons closer.
Perhaps It Is Time to Put Yourself First
Whether you are planning a romantic autumn escape, a celebration or a solo getaway in Lancashire, the months ahead are a beautiful time to visit.
If you have been waiting for somebody else to be free, perhaps you do not need to. Come alone. Bring a book. Take a walk. Have a sauna. Sit in the hot tub. Eat something delicious. Enjoy having nobody else’s timetable to think about.
Bailey Huts is my luxury shepherd’s hut in the Ribble Valley, Lancashire, with a private enclosed garden, wood-fired hot tub, sauna, cold plunge, outdoor shower, fire pit and homemade treats from the honesty shop. Whether you visit as a couple or give yourself time entirely alone, I would love to welcome you.
